10 Great Movies about Freedom--and Its Absence

Casablanca: My personal favorite. It has everything: a love triangle, drama, and the struggle against the Nazi occupation.

Star Wars: Fight between good and evil across time and space.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington: What happens when a man of courage comes up against Washington Power Establishment? This is the classic story of such a man.

12 Years a Slave: This is the story of the evil of slavery—how it not only weakens the body and mind, but pollutes the soul of a nation. It’s based on a book written by a free man in New York who was kidnapped into slavery.

Blade Runner: What happens when androids decide to become free, and are hunted down like runaway slaves? Find out in this powerful movie.

The Fountainhead: Based on the book by Ayn Rand. It’s about an architect who must fight against the forces of mediocrity and hypocrisy. The book is better, but the movie is still worth watching.

Braveheart: What does bravery really mean? Find out. Not for the faint of heart.

Easy Rider: If you’re born to be wild, and want to get you freedom lust sated, this movie fits the bill.

Patton: The United States has had many great generals. Patton provides a glimpse of one of the best.

Twelve Angry Men: A classic movie about the courage of one man in the closed confines of a Jury Room. Wonderful movie. Wonderful actors. Highly recommended.
